Positive Self-Talk: Positive self-talk is a crucial tool in building confidence. Try replacing negative self-talk with positive or neutral self-talk, positive affirmations and positive statements. For example, instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” say, “I can do this, I’ve got this.” Instead of saying “I’m rubbish, I’m useless”, say “I’m brilliant and amazing”.

Identifying Strengths: Identify and focus on your strengths rather than dwelling on weaknesses. Acknowledging what you’re good at can boost confidence and self-esteem. Rather than focusing on your weaknesses and trying to work on them, focus on what you’re good, on your strengths, and continuing to progress them.

Setting Realistic Goals: Setting achievable goals helps in building confidence. Break down larger goals into smaller, manageable steps, allowing for a sense of accomplishment along the way. Having small, achievable goals will create the momentum you need to keep going, and will boost your confidence tremendously.

Visualization: Visualization is something I talk a lot about, and is another technique for building confidence. By mentally rehearsing successful outcomes, you will develop a sense of belief in your abilities.

Embracing Failure: Failure is a natural part of the learning process and shouldn’t be feared. Instead embrace failure as an opportunity for growth and learning. Failure isn’t the opposite of success, it is part of success. Failure means you’re one step closer to achieving success. Learn to embrace and love failure, be confident to make mistakes and know that it’s okay.

Practice and Preparation: Practice and preparation is important in building confidence. The more prepared you are, the more confident you’ll feel in your abilities. Whether it’s sports, performing, public speaking or any other skill, consistent practice leads to improved confidence.
