What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a positive, forward thinking therapy that can help you relax your mind, gain control, enjoy your life and feel like the real you again. Using the very latest techniques, and based on the most current research in neuroscience, I can help you to achieve fast, long-term results.

Using a variety of tools and working together, we literally change your mindset, rewiring the brain to change your habit from thinking in a negative way to a positive way, while calming your mind and restoring confidence. This helps you to feel in control once again.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is different from other types of traditional hypnotherapy. It focuses on the present and the future rather than the past and combines solution-focused brief therapy, neuroscience, and some elements of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming). Solution-focused hypnotherapy is an amazing tool for improving mental health and helping people achieve their goals. It is a totally positive therapy and guides you to move forward, change your mindset and enable you to take control of your life. It is a combination of talking therapy and hypnosis.

 

What to expect during a therapy session

People ask me what to expect. The main thing is that when you come here we’re not going to dissect all the things that are making you feel unhappy, we’re going to leave them outside the door. What I’m going to do is use solution focused questioning, to help you get focused back on the things in the week that have made you smile, made you happy, maybe look at things that you want to achieve going forwards. People think I’m going to tell them what to do, but I don’t, you already know what you’ve got to do, it’s in there, I’m just going to help bring it out of you.

As a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, you can be reassured that I will not waste time delving into your past. What I will do is help you to determine your goals and achieve them. I will work with you in a positive and non-judgmental way. You are the expert on your own life, so I will not tell you what to do. My aim is to enable you to find your own solutions. You can be sure that you’re in the best possible hands, whatever your situation.

Why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

This therapy takes note of the latest brain research and neuroscience. Solution Focused Hypnotherapists are able to use a cutting edge approach to achieve fast long-term results. The Solution Focused method helps people to quickly change their outlook on life. It also helps people to absorb new and effective ways of thinking to achieve their goals.

When will I begin to notice a difference

Many of my clients begin to notice significant changes straight away. I feel that this is because I explain how the brain works, you can then begin to recognise and understand where your symptoms originate and this gives you a sense of control. Some clients take a little longer and this is only because everyone’s mind is different.

What happens in trance

Hypnotic trance is a natural state and nothing to be afraid of. We go into trance many times a day for example when we are driving, out for a run,  watching TV. Hypnotic trance works by allowing the conscious mind and subconscious mind to work together to focus on the same thing. This is a powerful tool to help to make those positive changes.

Is hypnosis safe

The hypnotic or trance state is very common, one we all experience every day of our lives. As a result it is a very safe and natural. Whenever you’ve become engrossed in watching the TV, driving a regular route, out running or at the gym, then you’ve probably entered a self-induced hypnotic state. It is in this state that the subconscious mind is more aware and can choose to focus on positive suggestions and thoughts.

When we are in a state of Hypnosis we are extremely relaxed yet in a state of focused attention. In a hypnotic trance your mind is more responsive to suggestion. In this relaxed state, we experience changes in our conscious awareness – almost like being in a daydream. During this time, the unconscious mind is more aware and can focus on helpful suggestions and thoughts.
 These suggestions are designed to help you change unhelpful thought patterns. However, it most definitly not any form of mind control. In the trance state we reamin in control at all times. We choose what information is useful and relevant and decide whether to act on it. We become more relaxed and are able to visualize potentially new ideas and scenarios. that may be useful.  This is why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be so beneficial, because it combines powerful solution-focused discussions, followed by encouraging a relaxing trance state so that the ideas and solutions discussed can then be explored and utilised by the brain for positive benefit.

Can hypnosis make me do something I don't want to do

Hypnotherapy cannot make you do something against your will. Contrary to the popular stage or film image, hypnosis does not involve the therapist taking control of your mind. No one can get you to do things that you do not want to do. If a suggestion is inappropriate for you, your mind will simply just ignore it.

Where are appointments held

I work with people from all over the UK. My sessions are held in person in Beaconsfield and Amersham, and online. For online hypnotherapy sessions I usually use Zoom, but can use other platforms if needed. By holding sessions online, there’s no need for a commute and you can create your own peaceful and relaxed space in the privacy and safety of your home or a place of your choosing. Online sessions are just as effective as in person sessions. 

With Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, will I have to tell you about my painful past

As Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on what you want to achieve, ie the solution, we will spend very little time on the past (the problem). You only need to tell me what you want to tell me. Rather than analysing painful memories from the past, I will recognise that unpleasant events have happened. We will assess how they are affecting your life today and focus on help we can get you to move forward.  I will then help you to get back to living the life you choose.

Who do I work with

I work with people who are experiencing an emotional or physical issue which is holding them back or who are struggling to cope with life’s challenges and adapting to change. Often they have tried other approaches to move forward but ultimately they still feel unhappy or stuck. People just like you. 

Regardless of what brings people to see me they all have one thing in common:

  • They are motivated to get better, cope better or be better
  • They are ready to get their lives on track
  • They are inspired to change

And that is what I am passionate about and skilled at helping people to do.

Why I'm different

I use a Solution Focused approach based on modern clinically proven, neuroscience techniques. I help you to understand how our brains work and why they get us stuck sometimes, and I teach you how to get your brain working better for you so that you can achieve the outcomes you want.  I guide you to find your own solutions to getting your life on track, feeling positive, confident, motivated and focused. And the best bit? We do all of this without any need to revisit the past or unpick old problems.

How many sessions will I need

This varies from individual to individual but Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a brief therapy meaning most people require between 8 and 12 sessions. Most phobias can generally be treated in just 4 sessions (if they’re a simple phobia). Stopping smoking can be achieved in just one 2-hour session. All sessions are 50 – 60 minutes, apart from the stopping smoking / vaping session which is 90 – 120 minutes
